What a fun afternoon at Otto's, we all enjoyed this experience including our Granddaughter who celebrated her 2nd birthday. Such a lovely family atmosphere, enjoying the trails and selecting our pumpkins also the quiz questions and learning some surprising fact's along the way!! We so much enjoyed this outdoor experience and had the most wonderful weather, some great photo opportunities and the mud made it all the more interesting 😂. This was the 2nd year of pumpkin picking at Otto's & our 5 year old loves it! They had improved on last year, adding more bits to do, woodland walk, games, etc. The staff are always so friendly & helpful. We look forward to going again next year. Otto's pumpkin patch is a lovely little place, huge selection of different pumpkins. Who knew there were so many different types. Some id never seen before. I did find the tiniest polar bear pumpkin. Great coffee and food. Games scattered around for young and old. The swing in the woods was enjoyed by us all. The forbidden forest with little quiz questions throughout. Photo opportunity set ups and of course great selection of pumpkins to pick from the field. This is our second year visiting, we will be back again next year. Definitely recommend. Trails to follow, secret hideaways to explore, warming drinks to consume, and amazing colourful pumpkins to pick from the fields or from the marquee. Highly recommended, and if you missed this year's event, make sure you go next year. And who knew that pumpkins also grow on trees! 😉🎃
Otto’s Pumpkin Patch Essex (Braintree)
The Cousins family can trace their roots back 8 generations to 1798. Since then a variety of crops and animals have been farmed there. A little notoriety was even gained by Joe Cousins and his Essex pigs when they met the Queen Mother! However 2022 was the first time pumpkins were grown on the farm.
The diversification was the idea of recent St Andrews’ graduate Finn Cousins. After admiring similar pumpkin patches in Scotland he thought his home farm could do with its own patch! Numerous planning meetings later the idea became a reality…
Along the way family and friends have made this journey possible: Mum and Dad Cousins, even Grandpa Cousins have all shared their insight and knowledge to get the pumpkin patch up and running.
We are thankful to have the opportunity to show the farm (and the pumpkins) to the public. Us farmers can often seemed quite closed off! So whether you’re a first timer, or an Otto’s veteran, come and say hello to us, ask us any questions you have and above all enjoy!
